Kelly Farm
Arrabawn Tipperary Co-op

Nestled by the shores of Lough Derg, Ned Kelly’s Ballydrennan farm is home to 141 milking cows supplying Arrabawn Tipperary Co-op, the farm reflects both a deep family tradition and Ned’s determination to maintain a vibrant dairy enterprise for the future.
The farm is home to Ned, his wife Eleanor, and their children, Liam, Orlaith and Eoin, all deeply engaged with the farm. Ned’s father, William, is still hands-on, while his nephew, also called William, is a central member of team.

With a system that prioritises standards and routine, Ned is committed to doing things right, demonstrating consistent attention to detail with all jobs, big and small. Hygiene is a big focus on the farm with close monitoring of cell counts and a fast response to early warning signals. Rigorous milk testing is being expanded from four to ten tests per year.

The cows are at typically at grass 299 days a year and grassland management reflects a sustainable approach. Ned uses clover, precision slurry spreading and GPS application to minimise chemical nitrogen and improve soil health. Ned has planted 310 metres of whitethorn hedgerows, set well back from the Nenagh River and has also invested in solar energy.
